HOPE AMIDST DESPAIR

Let's Spread More Hope than Fear

This morning, I had a close to 3 hour phone chat with a close young friend who has battled Covid-19 twice and overcame it. The previous time I had talked to her, her breath had been sharp and I could feel she was struggling to breath.

Today, when I heard her strong former self, I knew she had won the battle, and she confirmed that she had.

The first time she got the virus was the worst. This is how she felt;

  • So weak that lifting a spoon was close to impossible.
  • Mental fatigue and slowness: it took great strength to understand simple things like how to eat, or if it was day or night time, and her concentration levels were burnt out.
  • She could feel both hot and cold at the same time.
  • Breathing was as painful and the chest felt heavy.
  • Being irritable to sound, noise, light and touch.
All these were in interplay with other signs like cough, flu, headache, fever and others. It took her two weeks to get better even though she was on medication.

The second time she got sick, she thought it was normal flu. When the temperature shot high she had to go to TMR hospital where the test came out positive. A series of medication followed then, with treatment being received from home.

What kept her going?
"Being positive" is all she said. She tried to keep her spirits high. Unlike the first time when she had no stable job, and having closed her Bakery business, this time she has a stable job, and knowing that she had pending work kept her strong.

She as well had people calling in to check on her. She would receive calls from like 10 people in a day. That kept her strong.

According to her, seems like her body had become a little stronger this time round, and ready to fight, and she supported it to fight back!

Her message of Hope
Keeping a healthy lifestyle is so key, this includes having nutritious foods, plenty of water and rest. People should continue to maintain the Covid-19 appropriate behavior and follow the SOPs.

When one catches the virus at the lowest moment in life, it's more disastrous. Thus, some positivity and hope is so helpful to support someone stay positive.

So many stories of the adverse effects of the pandemic are running on social media these days, yes, the reality needs to be known. However, messages of hope are so crucial at this point.

Almost everyone has a friend, family, workmate, spouse or child who has been affected, and sharing positive stories of how people are overcoming the disease could be so helpful in a way unimaginable.

Let's share more hope than fear. Let's look out for each other.  Feel free to share some positivity in the comment section at the bottom.

Losing hope is equal to losing it all. We need to keep pushing in these uncertain times, we still have a life ahead.
