IS A NEW DAY DAWNING SOON?

Right besides our home is a massive umbrella tree.I have unconsciously developed a habit of gazing at it every evening. Just before curfew, which starts at 7: 00pm everyday, the birds that reside there retire for the night.

I wonder how far they could have wandered throughout the day! I become envious of their freedom. The curfew and quarantine restrictions get to them not. They wander off each morning searching for food, as I am stuck at home as well as a million more people around the world.

The usually busy lane in my neighborhood is dead silent. All the shops are closed, and everyone inside their houses.  The silence is so deep that you can hear a pin fall. One dares not to move out after the curfew for one's own shadow can be frightening. What are the souls behind those closed doors thinking? Have they even had a meal for the day

We are in a total lockdown. It's called the COVID-19 National pandemic lockdown. Unnecessary movements are prohibited, social distancing at play, public places like schools and places of worship shut, there's no working too, apart from the most vital sectors like Health that need to keep the country moving. Everyday seems like Everyday and time flies by slowly.

Just the day after tomorrow, the President is going to address the nation about the lockdown  for it is supposed to end then. But rumors have it that the cabinet advised him to extend it for another 14 days. The irony is that most Ugandans are not really afraid of contracting the deadly corona virus, but how they are going to survive. The question at hand is;
What shall we eat? Won't we die of hunger if the lockdown is extended?

Yesterday I moved out to go to the shop. A number of many frustrated hungry looking young men, tired of staying at home, were seated on verandahs of closed shops. They minded not about social distancing. As I looked at them I thought to myself,
" What does the future hold for everyone? Will the COVID-19 vaccine be confirmed soon? Will lives ever get back to the previous normal? IS a New Day dawning SOON?"
Well, let me await the Presidental address, for it may have a message of hope!

Stay safe,
Gladys.

  1. Hey Jose l love the analysis. That's what life has presented to the human plate but never the less we can still make good use of this lockdown and quarantine to show love and care to the hurting world, be an inspiration to someone and give them reasons to push on even when everything seems pretty tough. Together we shall overcome this pandemic.

  4. Life is so challenging at such moments. Some times I pose to wonder that the biggest remedy to depression is just below our nostrils. Imagine a well built family where the husband truly loves the wife which I presume will be mutual and the wife does respect her husband. All the children would be happy and feeling so safe at home. In such a setting finances are discussed at family level and meaningful investments initiated. There at this unfortunate moment you hardly worry about how you will feed but rather enjoy the love and peace at home.
    Just writing in perspective of a family enthusiastic person and a loving husband.
    #family is the best institution for development.

  5. Well said! A blessing of a good family is a great remedy for depression, but could also become its cause.
    Investing in our families is really key, as well as thinking of all alternative means of investing.
    Challenge is most people are day to day earners. The survive on what they earn daily which makes it hard for them to invest.

  6. The Future looks bleak, dim, and full of mysteries . There is more to covid than can beat the eyes. Many heroes are falling and those who stood the test of weather, times, challenges, illnesses are now falling to Covid 19. Even those heroes fall, the also fall into forgetfullness as no national tribute is given them for their contribution. "Ohhh COVID 19, How wicked are thou". None is safe yet as long as we rise up and can marvel the beauty of sunlight there is hope for a better tomorrow.
